Greystoke WI

The meeting in November was a dabble session. There were several crafts on offer and members visited the different tables to try new techniques. We are very grateful to the people who gathered materials to make this possible – Sue, Helen, Jane, Mary, Hazel and Lesley. There were opportunities to try felt craft, carding, making glittery fabric tree ornaments and sewing Christmas robins.

On Thursday 5 December, we will meet to enjoy Christmas music and supper. The Hand Bell group will provide some background music and there will be a chance to have a go at ringing some Christmas tunes. We are asking that members bring a plate of food to share. Can you, please, also bring a contribution to our traditional competition which is a gift wrapped parcel up to the value of £5.

We do not have a meeting in January but will join together for a New Year meal on Friday 10 January at the Brantwood Hotel in Stainton. Our next scheduled meeting will be on Thursday 6 February when Marie Hamer will talk to us about tackling educational disadvantage. The competition will be a favourite book from childhood.

If you would like to join us at WI meetings, please contact Sue, Val or Jennifer.

Greystoke Parish Council

The next Parish Council meeting is at 7.00pm on Tuesday 21 January in the Village Hall.

St. Andrew’s Church Tower, Christmas Lighting Appeal

It is that time of year, when during the moments of all the present buying, fun and frivolity, that the festive season brings, our thoughts must turn to all of our loved ones that so enjoyed our Christmas’s together, but are no longer with us.

What a wonderful way to remember and honour them, by once again lighting up the St. Andrew’s church tower.

Donations can be sent to Di Hetherington or any church member. Cheques to be made out to St. Andrew’s Church Greystoke PCC.

Thank you all so much in advance, and may I be the first to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Peaceful New Year.

On the evening there will be mulled wine, mince pies, delicious food and lots of Christmas stalls. It is an enjoyable evening for all.

Community Housing Group

We are now members of the Community Land Trust Network, which gives us access to great resources. We are holding a planning session in early November and we aim to hold our first public meeting to share where we are in late January. Do keep an eye on the website, social media and noticeboards for more details.

Bus Action Group

You are warmly invited to an open meeting to explain the timetable for the new bus service, where it runs to and from, how often it goes, and when it will start from.

The meeting will take place in Greystoke Castle at 7.00pm on Monday 9 December. We have confirmed attendance from Tim Farron MP, and have invited Judith Derbyshire Councillor, and Mark Hodgkiss Scheduled Bus Services Officer from Westmorland and Furness Council. They will be able to hear any questions you have.

This is a celebration of all our efforts as much as an info sharing meeting, the dungeon bar will be open, so do please come along and hear more.

Pam Wood (on behalf of the Bus Action Group).

Roy’s Review

I take delivery of 460 New Together Magazines which I then put into various lots for people to deliver. These lots range from 5 upwards, with 71 being the most. In all, 16 people are involved and they deliver 440. This leaves me with 20 to divide between the Post Office and the Church.

I would like to thank everyone for helping me with this task and wish them all a Happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

I also hope to see you at the Bingo events in the Village Hall which is one of the Village Hall’s main fund raisers of the year.
