Beer Tasting Notes 2024

This year we are delighted to showcase Cumbrian beers from Fell Brewery, Hawkshead Brewery, Tirril Brewery and Hesket Newmarket Brewery. We have 3 gluten free (GF) options this year

Bitters

Hawskhead Brewery – Bitter 3.4%

Our original hoppy bitter. A slight elderflower aroma from Slovenian Celeia hops. A great session bitter.

Fell Brewery – Crag 3.8%

A bitter beer with sweet malts, soon to be replaced by an increasing hop presence giving a lasting bitter finish.

Tirril – Borrowdale Bitter 4.2% (GF)

A beer that is a bit darker and more brooding than most of our range, perhaps suited to the climate of Borrowdale? It is a rosy amber ale, with good depth of malt character balanced with classic British hops for a good bitterness and hoppy finish. A classic British ale that is just a touch darker than your usual best bitter.

Pale Ales

Fell Brewery – Ghyll Golden Ale 3.4%

A golden ale available exclusively in cask, Ghyll is our nod to the great British session ale. It drinks easy with some pleasant intrigue from Amarillo hops. Ghyll keeps us grounded and reminds us that sometimes less is more.

Hawkshead Brewery – Windemere Pale 3.4%

Refreshingly hoppy pale ale. A very pale ale bursting with hop flavour from the signature hop – Citra. Brewed with soft lakeland water, Maris Otter Malted Barley and whole cone hops.

Hawkshead Brewery – Mosaic 4.0% (GF)

Developed to showcase the amazing aromas and flavour of the Mosaic hop. You should be able to pick up blueberry, tangerine and papaya, with the addition of bittering hop Hallertau Blanc bringing lemongrass and passionfruit to the beer. It has a very pale malt base, with Carapils and Malted Oats added to give a lightly toasted complexity and an enhanced mouth feel.

Hawkshead Brewery – Lakeland Gold 4.4%

A fruity bitter golden ale. A refreshing, well hopped, fruity and bitter golden ale brewed with soft lakeland water, English Maris Otter Malted Barley and a blend of whole cone hops. The signature hop is American Cascade but also with UK First Gold hop.

Amber Ales

Hesket Newmarket Brewery – Doris’ 90th Birthday Ale 4.3%

A full flavoured, fruity beer with hints of butterscotch, carefully balanced with bitterness from Fuggles, First Gold and Hallertau hops.

Blonde / IPA

Hesket Newmarket Brewery – Peak Bagger Blonde 3.8%

A hoppy blonde beer brewed with Amarillo, Idaho 7 and Nugget hops.

Hawkshead Brewery – Rookies Return 5.6%

Golden orange in colour with a bitter and piney body followed by heaps of dry hopping of Sabro, Mosaic and Simcoe to give a complex juicy and fruity hit of an aroma with waves of coconut and tropical fruit flavours with a dank, spiced pine finish.

Fell Brewery – Tinderbox IPA 6.3%

Tinderbox is a classic West-Coast style IPA. Dry and bitter, the hops are piney, resinous and pithy. We’ve been making this from the beginning and it remains close to our hearts.

Lagers

Hawkshead Brewery – Hawkshead Lager 4.5%

Small batch craft lager. A crisp refreshing premium beer, brewed with European hops, Lager Malt and our house ale yeast.

Tirril Brewery Premium Pilsner

Tirril Brewery Premium Pilsner 5.0% (GF)

Lovingly crafted for a stronger premium taste, this work of art is also brewed with Pennine water, Lager Malt and British top cropping yeast – then flavoured with the best Czech Saaz hops and cold conditioned for premium refreshment.
