The Friends of Saint Andrew’s Church Greystoke
Dear Friends and Residents of Greystoke and surrounding villages.
It is with great pleasure that we wish to announce a new group – the Friends of Saint Andrew’s Church Greystoke. This will be an independent charitable incorporated organisation that will be registered with the Charity Commission. We all know what a beautiful historic church we have in the village and how much we would wish to ensure it remains in good repair, and open and available to all. Work has been going on for several months to take forward the formation of this new group with discussions with Martin and the Church Council and the Parish Council to put together the constitution.
We are inviting you all to the official launch of this group in the church when the Trustees will be there to answer questions. A guided tour of the Church and the Tower will be available. So please do come along on Saturday 7 September, (times to be announced in the September magazine) and find out more about our fascinating church, climb the tower to view the bells, and enjoy coffee and cakes. You will also have the opportunity, if you wish, to join the new group as a member and support the work to keep the church in good repair by a £10 yearly membership fee.
Edith Fisher
My Wife Edith passed away on Tuesday 11 June at 5.30pm. Edith was a tremendous person with always a smile on her face even though for most of the time she was in pain with her Psoriatic Arthritis which she had had most of her life.
Edith did a tremendous amount of work for the village being one of the backroom people for without them we could not function, always to be relied on helping behind the scenes. Edith was one of the magnificent seven ladies who, with two men, raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity – there are now only two left. They raised a lot of money for the Cancer scanner at Carlisle and, if they had given Edith a MRI scan earlier, they would have found out what it was. When they did it was too late, let down yet again.
Rest in peace Edith – you were one in a million.
Love you for ever. Roy.
