Pottery Classes

We run pottery classes on Thursday morning and afternoon for a block of 6 weeks, covering all the pottery making methods and glazing the finished pieces.  You can either choose to try all of the techniques or work on a project of your own. Finished pieces are first fired to 1,000deg.C, then glazed and fired again in a gas kiln to 1280 deg.C. Our classes are limited to a maximum of 4 students,

We provide refreshments and biscuits.

How to Book

A 6 week course costs £180 and there is a small charge for the finished pieces of £4 per kilo.

Greystoke Village Hall is situated in the village of Greystoke, just 5 miles from Penrith and a 5 minute drive from the A66. The hall is available to hire for events including private parties, wedding receptions, fitness classes, fundraising events, meetings, training and local interest group bookings.

The hall offers many facilities including:

• Large heated main hall equipped with tables, chairs , benches and a stage. Premises Capacity 150. Main Hall capacity 105 with tables and chairs.
• A ‘bar’ area adjacent to the main hall complete with small kitchen provision
• A fully equipped large kitchen for catering
• An enclosed garden area laid to lawn.
• A separate meeting room (capacity approx. 20 people)
• A large free carpark (60 cars)
• Ramped entrance providing good accessibility 
• Free Wi-Fi

The hall holds a Premises Licence for regulated entertainment (PN0034). The sale of alcohol will require a temporary event licence (TEN) from Westmorland and Furness Council Licencing Team.

The Greystoke Hand Bell Ringers meet in the village hall most Thursdays from 1-30 to 3-30pm to practice ringing the bells. We currently have approximately 10 members who ring 3 octaves of bells with guidance from our Musical Director Maureen Hardy. We give concerts to a variety of groups of people and attend occasional rallies in the Northwest, where we play music we have practised, take part in massed ringing, hear and meet other groups as well as learning new techniques. The run up to Christmas is always a busy time, practising carols and festive music, and performing at the Carol Service as well as for various groups.

Practice includes a tea break, and there may also be cake, biscuits and other baked goods to consume! We welcome people who are interested in learning to play – musical experience is not required. If there is sufficient interest, a beginners group may be arranged at a different time.

Welcome to Greystoke and District Swimming Pool, located in the gorgeous village of Greystoke, about 5 miles from Penrith, just outside the Lake District National Park. We are open from May to September, 1pm – 6pm at weekends and during school holidays, and 3pm – 6pm on weekdays. The pool is owned and managed by the Greystoke and District Sports Association which is a charity. We run the pool on a not-for-profit basis supported by an enthusiastic band of volunteers.

When the pool is closed a pop-up Cafe operates every Tuesday 12-2. Pop in for soup and a chat!

The Dram Clam (formerly known as the whisky club) meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm, usually at the  Greystoke Swimming Pool Café .  Newcomers welcome. You will have the chance to sample a variety of single malt whiskies. A suggested donation of £15 would be very much appreciated.  Scores and comments are made on each, with a winner declared on the night – all in a light hearted, sociable and lively environment. The group has occasional outings and guest speakers.

The Crafternoon group meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays in the small back room 1.30 pm – 3.30 pm in the village hall.

It’s an informal group but lively, friendly and very welcoming group. The ability to craft is not essential but it’s a good place to meet other people (especially if you are new to the village).

Tea / Coffee and biscuits are provided for £2. We have equipment for beginners who want to get started or those wanting to develop skills. The group has different skills and experiences ranging from needle felting to knitting, sewing to silk painting, dressmaking, alterations etc.

This is a gentle and nurturing Hatha class adaptable to all levels including beginners and those recovering from injury. Hatha yoga is the classic, traditional style of yoga with some postures on the mat and some standing.  Each class includes meditation and relaxation.
